Posted by: | Comments (0)

This commemorative silver dollar was minted in 1983.

The obverse of the coin, designed by engraver Elizabeth Jones, depicts a Greek discus thrower in triplicate. The classic design, honoring the XXIII Olympiad, was inspired by the ancient work of the Greek sculptor, Myron. The interlocking Olympic rings are clearly visible under unique star design.

The reverse design, also created by Jones, displays the head and upper body of a proud American eagle.
