On the obverse of the coin is the “El Angel de la Independencia” landmark statue in Mexico City. This memorializes the Mexican war of independence with Spain. IN her right hand is a crown symbolic of victory. In her left hand is a broken chain to represent the freedom of Mexico form Spanish rule.
The reverse side shows several different versions of the Mexican COat of Arms. The central design is about the founding of Mexico City with an Eagle devouring a snake while standing on a prickly pear cactus! This image was taken by an ancient tribe to be a sign from the Gods.
